Guyol’s Bequest Ensures Future Support of Holy Name’s Life-Saving Work in Haiti

William B. Guyol, Jr., MDWhen William B. Guyol, Jr., MD, of St. Louis, Missouri, retired from his medical practice of 39 years, he kept one equally long commitment. Bill remains a devoted medical volunteer and enthusiastic financial supporter of Holy Name’s affiliated hospital—Hôpital Sacré Coeur—the largest non-government hospital in the north of Haiti.

“I have been familiar with The CRUDEM Foundation since Dr. Ted Dubuque, who was the head of surgery at my hospital, took a sabbatical to go to Hôpital Sacré Coeur in Haiti in 1986,” Bill says. “He founded The CRUDEM Foundation, which later became Haiti Health Promise, to support the hospital. My uncle Frank Guyol was a friend of Dr. Dubuque’s and was on the CRUDEM board. He invited me to meet the board. I was so impressed with the organization and their mission that I started volunteering with them and supporting them financially.”

To ensure his future support of Holy Name’s work in Haiti, Bill has included a bequest to the Foundation in his will. “It’s easy!” he says. “I was making a will anyway. I just list the bequest in the will, and my executor will write the check. I hope my gift will help to keep the doors open so the hospital can continue its life-saving work.”

“I know that income from patients covers only a small percentage of the cost of care. Without donations, there would be no access to care,” Bill concludes. “It is critical that private donations continue to support the hospital. Without it, the hospital would close—and hundreds of thousands of people would have no access to health care.”
